Breaking News: Contract Signing with Populus Pictures!

Friday, 15 April 2011 23:14

Populus Pictures, based in London with facilities at Pinewood Studios, is pleased to announce its contract signing with Massachusetts screenwriter Caitlin McCarthy and London-based director Si Wall (SPEED DATE; THE DINNER PARTY) on the motion picture RESISTANCE.

In RESISTANCE, the Nazi invasion of Czechoslovakia and the horrors of Auschwitz are seen through the eyes of one girl, forced to grow up quickly as she moves from the school yard to the concentration camp, working for the Resistance along the way.According to Roland Peters and Len Evans of Populus Pictures, “Caitlin McCarthy’s screenplay brings Vera Laska’s feelings of oppression and tension to life, and illustrates how Vera quickly became a woman to survive in a Nazi state at any cost. Director Si Wall is a touch of fresh air in a rather predictable, apathetic film industry present in the UK at the moment. Populus Pictures formed with the intent to break the mould and to bring new creative talent to the public with compelling storytelling.”

The RESISTANCE screenplay has already won awards or nominations in over 20 international film festival screenplay competitions and labs. It is based upon Vera Laska’s interview with Steven Spielberg's USC Shoah Foundation Institute; “Women in the Resistance and in the Holocaust: The Voices of Eyewitnesses” by Vera Laska; and “Vera Laska” from “Women Reshaping Human Rights: How Extraordinary Activists Are Changing the World” by Marguerite Guzman Bouvard. All film rights have been secured.
